History & Location

Patrick Baxter founded Patrick Baxter Furniture in 1992, after converting an old dairy farm in
Lanarkshire into suitable workshops & storage areas. Undertaking commissions for high quality furniture from all over the UK, he soon found sourcing dry, stable Scottish grown hardwood a bit of a lottery, so in 1994 started collecting tree butts from various local sources, initially using contractors to saw to his specification. He would carefully stack & dry them himself and before long most of the timber for the business, which by 1996 employed 4 skilled cabinetmakers and a draughtsman, was being produced in-house, and jealously guarded !

In 1999, initially to clear a surplus of offcuts, Patrick began selling some of the timber production to local woodturners and craftsmen, and so Lanarkshire Hardwoods was born. Timber production was increased and a new woodstore added in 2007. In 2008 a Forestor Tom Sawyer wide band sawmill was acquired to increase production further.

In 2004 Patrick's wife Rachael started working full time in the business, mainly in the office but also in the workshop where she specialises in traditional upholstery repairs to antique chairs. Having been around the wood business since 2000 she has quickly picked up a good background knowledge and should be able to help you on the phone, or Patrick will respond by phone or email to detailed questions about stock etc.
